Kong Karls Land is made up of three islands, Svenskøya, Kongsøya
and Abeløya. This archipelago has the largest concentation
of bear of Svalbard and is the most important denning area of Polar
Bear in the Arctic.
Kong Karls Land, with Nordaustlandet and Kvitøya is a part
of the North East Svalbard Nature Reserve.
A ban on traffic is imposed. The ban applies to all traffic on the
islands themselves, out to sea a distance of 500 metres from the nearest
point on land or adjacent rocky outcroppings, and in the air up to
500 meters altitude above this area.
