Edgeoya (Edgeøya) and Barentsoya (Barentsøya),
have a geological resemblance to the central part of Spitzbergen :
rocks of the secondary era, plates eroded by the glaciers, polar caps
on the tops.
Horizontal orientation of the bedding gives rise to plateau-shaped
mountains, often separated from each-other by broad valleys.
These two islands are zones of reproduction of the polar bears. These
islands also have an important population of reindeers.
Skeletons of polar bears, walruses and whales can be found on the
small island Halvmaneøya (Half Moon Island), south of Edgeøya.
On Bölscheøya, in the archipelago of Tusenøyane
are the remains of the extensive whaling and walrus hunting period.
