 PORT OF LONGYEAR

Maritime
traffic in Spitzbergen has become relatively important in summer season with small ships operating from Longyearbyen and large cruise vessels visiting Longyearbyen and other ports and fjords on Spitsbergen and Svalbard.

Longyearbyen is the logistic point for cargo and cruise traffic to the different aeras on Svalbard and the cruise activity. The port is located close to the city centre.
The Port of Longyear is the starting point for day trips to the local fjords or longer journeys to the West coast of Spitsbergen and around the Svalbard archipelago.

Three quays, Bykaia, Gamlekaia and Kullkaia are located within the port (see the Port Map).

Bykaia or Port of Longyear (Length 84 m Depth 9 m) is the public quay in Longyearbyen. This quay handles cruise traffic and general cargo.
Bykaia supplies access to electricity, water, fuel, shower and laundry.
Ships up to 250 meters in lenght can berth at Bykaia.
The WebCam view of Bykaia is supplied by Svalbard Samfunnsdrift AS.

Gamlekaia (Old quay) is a quay operating general cargo, coasting ships and bunker supplies
for small and medium sized vessels. Gamlekaia (Length 48 m Depth 4,8 m) can be seen on the Store Norske WebCam.

Kullkaia (Coal quay) located near the airport at Hotelneset is dedicated to the shipping of coal.

The Port of Longyearbyen is managed by the Svalbard Samfunnsdrift AS (SSD). Svalbard Samfunnsdrift
is a public corporation, responsible for public infrastructure in Longyearbyen.
